6 Different Types Of Anxiety Disorders

1. Generalized anxiety disorder

Chronic worrywart is the best way to describe a person with a generalized anxiety disorder. People with disorder generally keep fearing and worrying that some bad castrophe is going to befall them. Such thought patterns interfere with their daily work as well. The well known indications of this disorder are restlessness, fatigue and an upset stomach.

2. Panic Disorder

Unexpected panic attacks are a classic characteristic of this disorder. These panic attacks can be so intense that the patient actually starts fearing and dreading the next attack. Moreover, the fear of being alone and helpless during a panic attack is also quite pronounced in this disorder.

3. Phobia

Many people are well aware of phobia, but do not realize that it is a form of anxiety. This is an unrealistic fear of a particular object, activity or situation that really has little or no danger whatsoever to you. Some of the more common fears include snakes, flying, and the fear of heights.

4. Social anxiety disorder

This disorder makes you quite paranoid of being amongst people and the fear of getting embarrassed in public is quite paramount. Though many people may just dismiss or even call the person intensely shy; the fact of the matter is that it is a disorder.

5. Obsessive compulsive disorder

This disorder is popularly known as OCD and can be characterized by uncontrollable or unwanted behaviors which are more subconsciously ingrained. Examples of OCD include being unreasonably finicky about cleanliness or even constantly checking the lock on the front door or other types of such compulsions.

6. Post traumatic stress disorder

The last form of anxiety disorder you want o familiarize yourself with is post-traumatic stress disorder. This often occurs in after a traumatic event or life-threatening experience has just happened. Symptoms you may find yourself dealing with include flashbacks, nightmares, startling easily or simply avoiding situations that remind you of that particular event.

From the above mentioned disorders, it is quite obvious that there are many forms of anxiety disorders. Amongst these, there are many which are not even considered an anxiety disorder while the others like the OCD and phobia are quite well known.
